Human rights auction
10th of December 1997, on the human rights day, an action was taking place in Interkulttheater, based on Hüseyin Isik’s ideas, assisted by Cumhur Adatepe and Aret Güzel Aleksanyan. Human rights activists, threatened by death penalty, were auctioned. Their lives could be sold by public sale. If financial benefits are attained by being a good person, everybody will be good. If peace brings more money than war, there will never be a war again.
The evening began with different presentations concerning human rights – speeches, music, readings...Blindfolded people, tied to their chairs, were seated in the public. They all symbolized real human rights activists, sentenced to death. They were brought on stage, and were individually auctioned. The person, serving as „godfather“ of each of them, were shown on a slideshow behind. The revenue of the auction was doneted to three different NGO’s, working for human rights.
